Science: I decided to become a science teacher because I love the question: how? How can I predict what color my hamster's babies will be? How can I become more flexible? How can I keep my fish alive longer? These were all questions I asked as a kid and by studying science I found the answers to my questions.

Language Arts: I was a book addict as a child. I read until one in the morning on school nights. My parents would yell at me for staying up, but at night I escaped from my bedroom into worlds beyond my imagination. I became friends with Jo March. I scowled at villains and fell in love with heroes. I had friends that didn't understand why I loved reading so much. They struggled even understanding stories. I wanted to learn how to help my friends who were struggling. I want to teach my students how to fall in love with reading and I want to teach my writers how to share experiences with their readers. I am not a person who drills grammar. I drill communication and understanding. How can you communicate with your readers to get them to understand? How can you read so you don't miss anything?
